4,000 kilometres and 40 hours of driving later, we’re home

Home, sweet, -24 home.

It was a cruel joke I played on myself when I plannned to return from our BC road trip 11 hours before my Monday morning began. But, that’s ok. First-world problem, right? It’s not hitting me as hard as the return to winter is hitting me. The -24°/-11.2°F temperatures I woke up to were not awesome. But, I’m battling my winter depression by completing the planning of my garden (which is still under at least two feet of snow) and browsing the seed catalogue at William Dam Seeds. My Aunt Joanne reminded me that it is where my grandfather, my dad’s dad, used to order from. I knew this, but it hadn’t crossed my mind, and I’m so glad she reminded me. I’ll post more about it when I’ve finished planning/ordering.

It was bittersweet coming home. We all missed Noah, so it was a relief to come home to him, but getting back into the routine of daily life is going to be a little rough for the first few days. Especially since I haven’t fully unpacked the van yet. I guess my one bit of grace in this is that I did all our laundry before leaving my parents’ place, so at least we all have clean clothes. And Noah had the foresight to get supplies for the girls’ lunches today, which is beyond fantastic.

The main purpose of our trip to Terrace was to see my Grandma and my parents. The added bonus was all the friends and family we got to see as well. Our days were full to the brim with visiting, and we went to bed exhausted every night, but it was awesome. We didn’t get to see everyone we wanted to see, but, as Liliana says, that’s just how the life goes.

Grandma!

Before I post all about it, and post all the photos that I know certain people want to see, I need to unpack and clean my cesspool of a van and get some groceries in the house and deal with my inbox and have some coffee. And I need to run, because before we left I was running four days a week and eating healthy and while we were away I ate crap and ran only a few times, and I have a 10k to run in two weeks and I’m freaking out about it a little bit.

Wish me luck. And warmth. And endurance.

You are SO hardcore, doing an epic trip like that on your own. I bow to you. And wish you luck, warmth, and endurance. You can doooo eeeet!

I credit my four-and-a-half years of single-parenting experience which made me overly independent. And the miraculous super-awesome behaviour of my kids while traveling. I mean, we had our hiccups, but overall, they were AMAZING. Prayer works.

I echo what Amanda said. I can’t even fathom undertaking that kind of trip with my two kids…you are my hero.

I will be running that same race in two weeks and my training hasn’t been happening. We can do it regardless! It’ll be fun!

    I think….

    ;)

I’ll meet you at the finish line! I’m guessing … an hour and a half? Ha! UGH. I’m hoping to surprise myself with a time similar to that of our Sask Marathon time last year, but I’m not holding my breath.

Yes, definitely! We can start together too, if we can find each other and you never know, I may be running your pace given my lack of training :)

Yes! Let’s start together!! And then you can whoosh away! I just did 5k in … wait for it … 43 minutes. I KNOW. *sigh*

I’m with Amanda and Kami. You can do it!

I sure hope so!! My goal is to run 8k by this Sunday, take it easy next week doing 5 or 6 a few times, and then the 10 that Sunday. At this point, as long as I pass the finish line alive, I’ll be happy. :)
