goals for twenty thirteen

So, the holidays kind of killed me, as I’m sure they did everyone. Then, on New Year’s Day, my sister showed up at my door, and as awesome as that was (it was, she really needs to come again soon), it kind of threw the start of my New Year’s goals off the table. Which is totally okay, because they’re not I-have-to-do-this-every-day resolutions. They’re goals. Things I want to do this year.

And here they are:

  • Read 22 books (one more than last year)(I’m keeping track of them here)
  • Visit my grandma
  • Get a passport
  • Finally meet Bethany and take a road trip to Portland for LeakyCon
  • Decrease my sweatpants radius
  • Make more music (piano/saxophone)
  • Sit at the table for dinners more often than not
  • Become a morning person
  • Run two 10Ks (one more than last year)
  • Learn to like wearing my hair down (it’s always up. always.)(although I wore it down ALL DAY yesterday. it was quite the feat.)

Okay, well, I guess I have one resolution. I’m attempting Project 365 (a photo a day). Again. It’s not a New Year’s resolution so much as a life resolution. One year, I will do this. And I will attempt it every year until I make it. I think this will be my … fourth attempt?

Tuesday
1/365 :: off to Preston's first hockey game

Wednesday
2/365

Thursday
3/365

Friday
4/365 :: the three

Saturday
5/365 :: Star Wars and salt & vinegar popcorn and After Eight hot chocolate date with my eldest girl

Sunday
eleven-year-olds are for dish-doing

And I’ll include as many embarrassing surprise-I’m-taking-a-photo-of-you shots as possible. (Just kidding, Kaylie.)

So…you’ll take me with you to LeakyCon…right??!

I think goals are much more realistic than resolutions. Resolutions strike me as so much more finite and that if you don’t follow through YOU FAIL! And failing is not fun.

My goal is to be successfully self-employed. And go to LeakyCon with you. It’s in my head so now it MUST happen!

      Emailed you. :)

Hee, I like that surprise shot. She looks like she has a better attitude about being surprised than my kids. Good luck on your 365. I’ve failed one 365 and completed two 365s (one was a 366) now, but my numbering has gotten off both times. It starts getting hard to keep track around June/July, but that might also be because it’s summer and there are more fun things to be had. I’m doing it again this year with the hope I can keep track of the number a lot better.

    Also – YAY for Leakycon!

I do assume I’ll lose track. That is, assuming I make it to June/July!!

I thought you had a photo a day last year, how many days did you miss?

        • jen Monday, January 7, 2013, 2:00 pm

About 300. ;) I don’t count iPhone photos. I’m going for purposeful DSLR photos.

          • Becca Monday, January 7, 2013, 2:13 pm

Aahhh. Yeah. I counted cell phone pictures last year. This year, I’m trying to use just the DSLR. So far, so good – but then it is only day 7.

I am going to run those same two 10 k’s! Cannot wait.

Great bucket list. The fun is in checking them off and I can ‘t wait to hear about each one :)

    • jen Tuesday, January 8, 2013, 11:04 am

And I can’t wait to check them off!

I have an underpant radius of my whole apartment when my male roommate isn’t home!
I agree with Roxy, resolutions make me feel like a failure if I don’t stick with them.
    I want Kaylie’s pjs.

    • jen Tuesday, January 8, 2013, 3:37 pm

Yep, this is why I don’t make resolutions! I’m a failure enough, I don’t need to create new opportunities to fail. :)

  • Meg Tuesday, January 8, 2013, 2:03 pm

Ps you typed thew instead of threw, tee hee

    • jen Tuesday, January 8, 2013, 3:37 pm

I’m really behind on blog commenting.

I don’t really do New Year’s goals or resolutions. But I do have one very definitely plan this year: I am going to go to Australia to visit Lauren. Period.

I’m doing lots of other stuff too, but most of that stuff will be easier to make happen (like meeting you and going to LeakyCon, yay!). Australia will be A Challenge. But I WILL DO IT.

*definite plan, not definitely plan. What the French toast, Bethany?
